Very distinctive masks, unmistakably due to the deep scarification on the cheeks.

Story

The 50,000 Yela live south of the Mbole in independent villages in Bonanga. They carve these striking masks, unmistakably due to the deep scarification on the cheeks: The mask of the executioner of the Ekanga secret society.

The minimalist style and the white pigments show the work of a Yela artist. Strong traces of use on the surface front and back as well as on the contact points of the garment. The Raphia and the cloth are original and newly fixed.
